Victorian Mourning Brooch, Pearl, 14K Gold, Black Enamel, Vintage Fine Jewelry
An oval shaped Victorian mourning brooch finished in black enamel and featuring genuine pearls. A braid of hair is enclosed. The inscription translates as In Memory of and the back of the brooch is engraved Jane Guy with her date of death 9 Feb 1836
In very good vintage condition, only point to note is that the clasp has been replaced at some stage to a rollover c clasp.
Tests as 14K gold. Jewelry of this age is usually unhallmarked as much is hand made or made from remelted jewelry for special occasions. Sadly mourning was a normal activity due to the high mortality from disease.
The brooch weighs 6.2g and has a diameter of approx 1"
