Emerald Diamond Engagement Ring, 14K Gold Ring, Victorian Fine Vintage Jewelry
A beautiful emerald diamond engagement ring featuring an old european cut diamond and two emeralds set with the fine slender claws of the Victorian age on to a polished gold band. The emeralds have a lovely tone to them. The inner fire of the stones can be seen quite clearly through a loupe. The ring can be used traditionally as an engagement ring or as a wedding band. Stamped 585 (the European equivalent of at least the 14K gold standard) with other hallmarks I cant distinguish. The ring has been mis-stamped and tests as 18K gold.
The sizes of the stones are just over 4mms each. The colour of the diamonds is in the range of colourless to slightly coloured and is therefore graded VS2 with an old diamond cut. The stones are typical of that period. Gems were not cut then with precision mass producing machinery, but were hand tooled. Therefore, the emeralds are of similar shape and size but not identical. You can see through a loupe the individuality of the cut of the three stones, and that the stones are very slightly of different sizes and shapes. Gems were often passed down from generation to generation while the gold would be remelted to form pieces fashionable at that time. The ring is therefore of great value for its beauty and uniqueness. It has been valued conservatively at £1800 by a reputable UK jeweller.
