Sweetheart Brooch or Pin, World War I, Sterling Silver Vintage Jewelry
A gorgeous brooch that should bring plenty of good luck - a pretty horseshoe with seven nail holes is in the centre and forget me not flowers are at either end. This is a very poignant brooch as we recently honoured the centenary of World War 1 and reflect on the tremendous loss of life and distress to loved ones. This type of brooch was already popular during the Victorian era, due to the high mortality from disease, but was revived during World War I.
It is secured by an earlier open c clasp. The UK hallmarks reveal that the brooch was assayed in Chester, 1914.
In very good vintage condition, with patina
