Horseshoe Bracelet, European Silver, Russian 1860s Vintage Jewelry
IMPERIAL RUSSIA 1860s
19th bracelet consisting of 7 horseshoe gold tone engraved panels with chain links. Engraving to the gilt metal is in the form of exquisite art nouveau swirls. Crosses are engraved on the silver tips of the horseshoes, but they are to a certain extent worn away.
The bracelet weighs 31 grams, and is stamped on the clasp 84 (the Russian silver hallmark), the symbol for Moscow and the silversmiths initials. There is a symbol on the back of one of the horseshoes, and an obliterated one on another.
Secured with a push in clasp and a safety chain. Approx 7 1/4" in length
In good vintage condition. Some of the horse shoes are slightly dented at the ends, there are a couple of tiny punctures in the silver, and there are a couple of inexplicable openings in the silver. This is an extremely old c 1860s bracelet and it would have been very valuable so there may be mysteries about it. The flaws really do not effect the overall beauty as it is quite an overwhelming piece of craftsmanship.
As a horse lover myself, I imagine this was once of great value and significance to someone.
