Art Deco Revival Compact
A very stunning Art Deco revival black compact with the main sights of London illustrated in gilt with their names written underneath on ribbons.
Kigu manufactured compacts in London from incept in 1947 until the late 1970s. The company originated in Hungary, its name an abbreviation of it's proprietor Gustav Kiashek. Kigu regularly advertised its products using the slogan 'Compacts of Character for women of discernment'.
The mirror is speckled with age spots and you may wish to replace it. It is a very fine mist so still usable. Hinges and clasp are solid. There some scratches and wear on the enamel and body - particularly the reverse. The internal divider is in good condition and is highly attractive with a criss cross overall pattern and an art deco centre stating KIGU. The puff and sifter are both present and probably never used. The base (inside) is inscribed KIGU MADE IN ENGLAND
It is 3 1/4" (8cm) across X 1/2" (1.3cm) deep.
